Abstract

This article examines the phonological characteristics of stress and intonation in English and Uzbek. It focuses on their structural, functional, and typological differences and similarities through the lens of phonological theories such as Autosegmental-Metrical Theory and the Theory of Prosodic Hierarchy. By comparing real-world speech samples and phonetic transcriptions, the article demonstrates how each language utilizes prosody for meaning-making, emotional expression, and syntactic structuring.
