This article examines key theories of politeness, including Geoffrey Leech's Politeness Principle and Brown and Levinson's Face Theory, with a particular focus on the concept of positive face. Understanding positive face and its associated politeness strategies is essential for effective intercultural communication and for preventing misunderstandings.
