Abstract

The translation of geographical names and toponyms presents unique linguistic, cultural, and political challenges. This paper examines the principles, methodologies, and implications of translating toponyms, with a focus on historical, linguistic, and legal perspectives. Various translation strategies, such as transliteration, transcription, and adaptation, are analyzed in relation to their effectiveness and impact. Additionally, the role of international organizations in standardizing toponymic translations is explored.
