Abstract

Abstract: The functional-semantic analysis of lexical doublets in the English language represents a significant area of lexicological research that affords valuable insights into the dynamics of lexical enrichment, language contacts, and semantic differentiation. Lexical doublets in English, which are etymologically related word pairs that have entered the language through different historical channels or processes, present a layered landscape where meanings, stylistic nuances, and pragmatic functions are carefully maintained and distributed. The examination of doublets thus enables linguists to understand the processes of borrowing, semantic shift, and the functional allocation of lexical resources within the English-speaking community.
