This paper explores the interpretation of the theme of man and existence in Ernest Hemingway’s prominent works, particularly The Old Man and the Sea and A Farewell to Arms. In The Old Man and the Sea, Santiago's solitary battle with the marlin reflects the inner strength and unbroken spirit of man in the face of nature’s indifference. His perseverance, despite failure, is portrayed as a victory of character and existential courage.
