Anabolic steroids, synthetic derivatives of testosterone, are widely used in sports and medicine and are associated with serious cardiovascular risks. This review discusses the main mechanisms and consequences of the effects of anabolic steroids
on the cardiovascular system, including changes in lipid profile, blood pressure, endothelial and myocardial function, and risk of thromboembolic complications.
