This article is devoted to the study of translation methods in language learning, in particular the grammatical translation method (GTM). It analyzes the historical basis, basic principles of GTM, and its application in modern language education. The advantages and disadvantages of this method are discussed, highlighting its role in developing students' reading and writing skills, but its 
limitations in communicative competence. The article also compares GTM with other language teaching methods and assesses its relevance in modern education
