Abstract

Annotation:  This  article  explores  the  integral  relationship  between  reading
instruction and the development of critical thinking skills in the English classroom. It
begins by emphasizing the importance of critical thinking in modern education and
outlines  how  reading  comprehension  can  serve  as  a  foundation  for  higher-order
thinking. The authors present a variety of pedagogical strategies such as questioning
techniques,  text  annotation,  classroom  discussions,  and  multimedia  integration  that
promote  active  student  engagement  with  texts.  The  article  highlights  the  positive
outcomes of these strategies, including improved reading comprehension, enhanced
analytical  skills,  and  greater  student  motivation.  It  also  addresses  implementation
challenges and offers practical recommendations for educators. Ultimately, the piece
argues  that  fostering  critical  thinking  through  reading  instruction  is  not  just
pedagogically  beneficial  but  also  essential  for  preparing  students  for  real-world
decision-making and lifelong learning.
